In October 2008, international tenor Marcello Giordani joined the UP Advisory Board, as announced in his newsletter. On November 7, 2009, Maestro Giordani welcomed Underworld Productions guests backstage at the Metropolitan Opera to toast his success as Calāf in Puccini's Turandot.
UP's Artistic Director, Gina Crusco, met Marcello Giordani through Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto (Italy), where she was chorus master and he performed the role of the Duke in Rigoletto. The two share a common view of the importance of outreach and training. Upon joining the UP Advisory Board, Mr. Giordani stated that he was eager to "play an active role in areas which have long been of special interest to me."
Mr. Giordani has remarked on the importance of smaller companies like UP, as we play "an essential role in expanding and revitalizing the arts in general and music in particular; without them many aspects of the artistic world would be impoverished and neglected, and many young people would not be given the opportunity to nurture their talents."
UP's Advisory Board also includes Janet Gerson, Education Director of the International Institute for Peace Education; Mark Vecchio, Esq., partner with Venable, LLC; and Dr. Robert C. White, voice teacher at Juilliard School and the Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artists program.
